Success Stories
Farias Soccer Academy
Emily has been playing soccer for 11 years, ever since she was 5 years old. She started training with Eduardo at Farias Soccer Academy when she was 8 and trained with the staff there until leaving for the US to further her soccer and education. She was offered a spot at Shattuck St. Mary’s school in the US and is now attending school there and playing on their school soccer team. Emily has learned many things at FSA – and some lessons were easier than others! She has learned how and when to make the best decisions. She has learned that you have to WANT to be better and that you must be willing to make sacrifices in order to become better. Emily has learned an incredible amount both technically and tactically when it comes to playing the beautiful game. It is okay to make mistakes. It is okay to push yourself so hard that you feel uncomfortable. She has also learned that it is NOT okay to not try your hardest.
And that being outside of the norm is perfectly okay Emily works very hard at school to keep on top of her assignments and studying. She has learned from her soccer training that hard work is just part of life, which has helped her focus in school. Because she has so much soccer and lots of work at school she has learned how to manage her time effectively. Shattuck St. Mary’s school caters to Elite athletes, and Emily loves being around people who have similar goals and interests in life. Her favourite part of going to Shattuck is the HIGH intensity of training – twice every day – and the opportunities and responsibilities it brings. She is doing lots of traveling and visits many different schools around the US to play soccer. Her responsibilities are many as well, as she is responsible for all tasks required prior to departing on a trip, such as organizing clothes, being on time to notify teachers that she will be absent, and bringing homework for the mandatory 3 hour study hall on the bus. Emily is trying to use this amazing opportunity granted her to improve her leadership skills. In the past, Emily has volunteered her time with both the Scotia and Suburban soccer clubs, training younger athletes under the direction of senior coaches. Shattuck has a mandatory 20 hours of volunteer services required, and she plans on using these hours to broaden her exposure to community involvement. When Emily was 15, she made the U15 Nova Scotia provincial soccer team. This was the first year she had been accepted to the provincial roster. Within the month, Emily had also been selected for the National Training Centre and then Team Atlantic, as well! The following year she repeated these accomplishments for the U16 teams, as well. Emily would love to hear from any of the FSA athletes who would be interested in keeping in touch with her. If you’re interested, please let us know and we’ll forward her email and mailing addresses to you. Several of her soccer games are televised, and we can forward her schedule as well if you’d like to watch
